SRINAGAR: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Union Territory of Ladakh has arrested an aircraft maintenance engineer after recovering a small quantity of suspected heroin from his possession during a routine patrol in Leh.
Police said the accused was intercepted on July 12 near the Truck Union while travelling in an Alto K10 car (registration number HP29A-8299).
The accused has been identified as Ajay Thakur (22), son of Sarwan Kumar and a resident of Makarana in Joginder Nagar, Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. He is employed as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer at Leh Airport.
Following the recovery, the ANTF registered FIR No. 07/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the police station of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Ladakh.
The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized contraband.
The ANTF reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and said it will continue its efforts to make Ladakh drug-free.
