SRINAGAR: Member of Parliament Mian Altaf on Monday called for large-scale inspection of pesticides and fertilisers entering Jammu and Kashmir through Lakhanpur, urging the authorities to take strict action against those responsible for supplying substandard or harmful agricultural inputs.
Raising concern over the issue, the MP said pesticides and fertilisers entering through Lakhanpur should be subjected to comprehensive checks to safeguard the interests of farmers.
“Pesticides and fertilisers entering through Lakhanpur should be checked on a large scale. The guilty must be punished. It is the grower who suffers,” Mian Altaf said.
He stressed that strict enforcement and accountability were essential to prevent the circulation of substandard agricultural products, which he said directly affect growers and agricultural productivity.
The MP urged the authorities to strengthen monitoring and inspection mechanisms at Lakhanpur to ensure that only quality agricultural inputs are allowed into the Union Territory, thereby protecting farmers from financial losses and crop damage.
