Police on Monday evening have to face stiff opposition from stone-pelters in Safapora and Mansbal area of North Kashmir’s Sumbal constituency who continuously pelted stones on the cavalcade of Higher Education Minister Muhammad Akbar Lone when he tour in his constituency. It was the timely intervention of police that Minister was saved from the wrath of the alleged stone-pelters.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that Higher Education Minister was on a visit to different areas of his Constituency when youth at different places like Kondabal, Safapora, Barkati Mohalla attacked his cavalcade with stones.

“Eyewitnesses told CNS that security personnel accompanying the Minister exercised restraint and did not use force to disperse the pelters. “It were policemen who saved the Minister. They provided him cover and took him out from the troubled areas,” one of witnesses said.

When contacted Station House Officer, Safapora, Manzoor Ahmed Mir denounced these allegations and said no stone-pelting incident occurred during the visit of the Higher Education Minister.

“It is absolutely baseless. Youth did not attack the cavalcade of the Minister,” he said.

Pertinently, Lone was targeted by youth in Hajin and Safapora in past as well.
