Scores of people including parents staged a massive protest against District Hospital authorities in Ganderbal after their injured children were not treated in the hospital in wake of absence of doctors.

Reports said that a school bus (JK01L-7309) carrying the children of New Dream Land Educational Institute Ganderbal met with an accident at Barsoo Highway in which at least six children were injured.

Parents and people were aghast when they found that only one doctor was present in the District Hospital Ganderbal. “The lone doctor who was present there was so exhausted that he did not bother to take care of injured children though even police officials too requested him to do so,” one of the parents told CNS.

Block Medical Officer, Ganderbal, Dr Shabir Ahmed Awan told CNS that the government has posted only four doctors in the hospital. “What can I do? One doctor has been assigned night duty another doctor has gone for some important work. Dr Manzoor is handling Causality while another doctor takes care of OPD,” BMO said.

People alleged that the Health Department has posted some 11 doctors in the hospital who prefer to practice in private than to attend the hospital. “Despite knowing the fact, BMO takes no cognizance and never initiates any action against the absent doctors,” one of the residents, Abdul Rashid said.

Protestors said that most of the sections of the hospital including Dental Section were closed when injured children were brought for treatment in the hospital. The school Management shifted all the injured children to nearby private clinics.

Protestors raised slogans against hospital authorities and Directorate of Health Services and demanding immediate action against doctors.
