SRINAGAR: A militant affiliated with the Al-Badr outfit was killed in an encounter in the village of Hawoora in the Kulgam district of south Kashmir, according to the police.

“A joint cordon and search operation was launched in the Hawoora area of Kulgam based on specific intelligence about the presence of a militant. The operation was conducted by the J&K Police, Army (1st RR), and CRPF (18 Bn),” stated a police spokesperson in a statement.

“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding militant fired indiscriminately at the team, injuring a J&K policeman. The injured policeman was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.”

The spokesperson mentioned that the hiding militant was given an opportunity to surrender, but he continued firing at the joint forces. The security forces effectively retaliated, resulting in an encounter.

“During the encounter, a local militant associated with the proscribed militant outfit Al-Badr was killed. The body of the militant, identified as Adil Majeed Lone, son of Abdul Majeed Lone and resident of Akbarabad Hawoora, Kulgam, was retrieved from the encounter site,” the spokesperson said.

“Incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition, including 01 Pistol with live ammunition and a Grenade, were recovered from the encounter site. All the recovered materials have been recorded as evidence for further investigation.”

“A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered, and further investigation is underway. People are requested to cooperate with the police until the encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of any explosive materials,” concludes the statement. (GNS)
