SRINAGAR: Senior CPI(M) leader and spokesman Peoples Alliance For Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) from Jammu and Kashmir Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday said the leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir did not get any concrete assurance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah at the all-party meeting held on Thursday.

“The statehood of Jammu and Kashmir was scrapped without consultation with the people. The Prime Minister and Home Minister heard our concerns, demands and aspirations today. We apprised them our issues. Unfortunately, we did not get any concrete assurances from them,” news agency ANI quoted Tarigami as having said.

“We told him [the PM] that such a meeting should have been conducted prior to August 2019. What happened in August 2019 was against the spirit of Constitutional order,” newspaper The Hindu quoted Tarigami as having said.

Tarigami said that the Union government was told clearly that downgrading the State and splitting it into two Union Territories without consultations has left the populace demoralised and disillusioned.

“PM Modi said that the concerns of political parties and people for restoration of Statehood would be looked into at an appropriate time,” Tarigami said.
