Kargil

National Conference on Thursday re-asserted the unity and commitment of the people of all the three regions of the State to stand in strong defence of Article 35-A. Addressing a convention in Kargil during an extensive tour of Kargil and Drass, National Conference Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani and Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi said Article 35-A was a non-negotiable article of faith and trust that will be defended by people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh in unison. On this occasion Former Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil was appointed as the District President of the Party for Kargil District and prominent PDP activist Parveen Akhtar joined the party along with scores of other political workers and activists.

Speaking on the occasion, NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani congratulated Haji Muhammad Hanifa on his new responsibility in the party and said National Conference was the only party in the State that worked as a cohesive and unifying bond between the three regions. “We have always strived to maintain unity, communal amity and brotherhood between the three regions of the State and we will continue to stand together as one people against all nefarious designs aimed to fragment us and weaken us. Our composite political and cultural identity is non-negotiable and we will not allow divisive and disruptive forces to divide us to further their deep-rooted political agenda”, the NC Provincial President said.

Speaking on the occasion, NC Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi congratulated Haji Muhammad Hanifa on being appointed as the party’s Kargil District President and expressed faith in his dedication to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. “The response we have seen from the public in Kargil is overwhelming and indicative of the bond of trust that has existed for generations between National Conference and the people of Kargil. At this crucial juncture when powers that be are hell bent to assault our special status and rob us of our unique political and cultural identity, the need of the hour is to unite and fight this battle together. The myth that Article 35-A finds support in only one region of the State has been exposed by NC’s continuing outreach programme on this issue in Jammu, Kashmir and in Ladakh. We will reach out to every region and every area of the State and continue to strengthen the consensus on this sensitive issue. Kargil has been summarily neglected by the State and the Central Government and this has wreaked havoc with infrastructure, essential services and utilities in the region. The selective-governance policy of the PDP-BJP Government is unacceptable and will be defeated in a convincing manner in the very near future”, the NC Chief Spokesperson said on the occasion.

Addressing the convention, NC District President Kargil and Former Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Haji Muhammad Hanifa thanked the party for reposing faith in him and reaching out to people in all the three regions of the State and acting as a bond of unity and cohesion. “With every passing day hundreds of people are joining the party to strengthen the mission of unity, prosperity and brotherhood and to take the party’s ideology and agenda to every nook and corner of the State. National Conference symbolizes unity and diversity of Jammu and Kashmir and its ultimate agenda is to uphold the State’s dignity, integrity and political identity”, Haji Muhammad Hanifa said.

Others who addressed the convention and various other programmes during the extensive tour included Former Ministers Qamar Ali Akhoon, Feroz Ahmed Khan and Senior Leader Ghulam Hassan Khan among other prominent political workers and activists of the party.
