Dozens of women today held a protest rally in Sopore area of the northern district of Kashmir valley, Baramulla.

They said announcements were made from the loudspeakers of Jamia Masjid asking women to come out of their homes and participate in the protest.

Reports said that scores of women assembled in the lawns of Jamia Masjid Sopore and tried to march towards the main Chowk. They were raising slogans in favour of “Azadi and Pakistan”.

However, police deployed in strength didn’t allow the women protestors to come out.

Meanwhile, minor clashes erupted in the town after youth came out on roads and blocked the movement of traffic.

Witnesses said that some local youth pelted stones on the vehicle thereby causing damage to many vehicles.

They said that police reached the spot and tried to disperse the youth.

However, youth started pelting stones on the policemen who retaliated by firing teargas shells.
