Senior BJP leader and Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Choudhary Lal Singh on Thursday met PDP leaders in Khanbal area of Islamabad assembly segment and discussed the pre-election campaigning.

He asked people to vote for Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti.

PDP and BJP are partners in J&K coalition government.

The Islamabad assembly seat fell vacant when former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed breathed his last on January 07, 2016.

Lal Singh met senior PDP Leader Ab Rehman Veeri, Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs and discussed various issues including Islamabad By-Polls.

The BJP Minister also interacted with some locals in Khanabal and asked them to support and vote for PDP “for the welfare of their constituency and the state”.

“If Madam (Ms Mehbooba Mufti) wins, this will be an opportunity for you and for whole state to prosper,” the Minister told the locals. “You must support her and ask others to do same for the welfare of the general public.”

Sitting CM, Ms Mehbooba is a member of Lok Sabha currently. And the elections to Islamabad seat have to be held within six months since it fell vacant.

CM Ms Mehbooba Mufti is fighting the elections from the seat. Iftikhar Misger from NC and Hilal Ahmad Shah from Congress are among other six candidates in the fray.

At the PDP office in Islamabad, Lal Singh held meeting with other PDP members and discussed the on-going pre-poll activities, sources said.

“He gave us suggestions how to campaign and win trust of people,” one of the PDP activists present in the meeting said.
