Amarnath Yatra 2015: Div Com seeks Suggestions from Civil Society

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal, Wednesday reviewed the arrangements put in place for the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in winter capital – the first base camp for the pilgrimage to the Himalayan cave shrine in South Kashmir.

The Divisional Commissioner sought the suggestions and cooperation of Traders, social and religious organizations for providing effective and best possible facilities to the pilgrims in Jammu. He was chairing a joint meeting of officers and civil society members, an official statement said this evening.

The Divisional Commissioner discussed various matters with the Civil and Police administration and also sought suggestions from the members of the civil society to ensure timely arrangements for the annual pilgrimage.

The Divisional Commissioner was apprised about the demands pertaining to opening of sufficient number of counters for current/fresh registration of Yatris in the city. Making available information brochures with regard to Yatra to the pilgrims at all conspicuous places on the way like Lakhanpur, Kunjwani Chowk, Airport and Railway Station etc.

They also demanded that sufficient buses should be arranged in time for the Yatris and free transport/shuttle service should be made available from Bhagwati Nagar to Indra Chowk to enable Yatris to take a round of the city.

They stressed on proper repair of the National Highway to keep it traffic worthy during Yatra period.  The participants also called for effective traffic management on the highway for smooth and comfortable journey of pilgrims, the statement said.

Regarding better facilities for the pilgrims the participants demanded that adequate supply of electricity and water should be ensured and health centres should be manned and equipped properly. They also asked for providing clock rooms at the Yatri Niwas for the convenience of the pilgrims.

Threadbare discussions were held on the issues highlighted by the participants and all concerned Departments were directed to take necessary action for the smooth conduct of the Yatra.

Members of the civil society who attended the meeting include Jagdish Dogra, Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Jammu, Dineshwar S.Jamwal, President, Duggar Vikas Mandal, KS Charak, General Secretary, Baba Yatri Nyas, Rameshwar Dass, Ram Mandir, Purani Mandi,Jammu, Ved Parkash Sharma, President, Dogra Brahmana Sabha, Rakesh Gupta, President, CCI, Jammu, Ravi Mahajan, Chairman, Jammu Paryatan Vikas Mandal, Yash Paul Gupta, President, CTF, Jammu and  Surinder Mohan Agarwal, President Yatri Niyas, the statement added.
