SRINAGAR: The Amarnath Yatra continued smoothly on Friday, with a fresh batch of 926 pilgrims leaving Jammu for the Baltal base camp while 133 devotees returned from Baltal to Jammu under heightened security arrangements.
According to the Zonal Police Control Room, Jammu, the 29th batch departed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas at 2:59 am in a convoy of 42 vehicles bound for Baltal in Ganderbal district.
The batch comprised 693 men, 178 women, 34 sadhus and 21 sadhvis. The pilgrims travelled in 21 buses, three medium motor vehicles, 17 light motor vehicles and one two-wheeler.
The convoy moved through Ramban district along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway amid multi-tier security arrangements before proceeding towards the Baltal base camp. Traffic and security personnel were deployed along the route to facilitate the safe movement of the pilgrims.
Meanwhile, the 27th down convoy carrying 133 pilgrims left the Baltal base camp for Jammu, the Joint Police Control Room, Baltal, said.
The returning group included 110 men, 21 women and two children. They travelled in seven vehicles, comprising three heavy motor vehicles, one light motor vehicle and three trucks.
