SRINAGAR: A 42-year-old woman pilgrim died on Thursday after she fell unconscious at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Officials said the woman suddenly collapsed shortly after collecting her RFID card at the base camp. She was immediately rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The deceased has been identified as Geeta Devi, wife of Kaalu, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
According to her family members, Geeta Devi had completed the registration formalities and collected her RFID card when she suddenly lost consciousness.
A relative said the family has decided to return home with her body and will not undertake the pilgrimage.
Quoting officials news agency KNT reported that the exact cause of death would be known after the completion of medico-legal formalities
