SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir and Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) head Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Thursday paid tributes to late Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, describing him as a religious and political figure whose life, he said, reflected faith, courage and commitment towards justice.

Speaking at a memorial event organised by Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, headed by Aga Syed Hasan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi, in Budgam, Mirwaiz said Khamenei’s life carried a message that faith was not limited to personal worship but also involved standing against injustice, defending human dignity and supporting the oppressed.
He said the greatest tribute to the late leader would be to strengthen unity among Muslims and reject sectarian divisions.
“At a time when the Ummah faces division, conflict and external pressures, his message reminds us that Shia and Sunni, despite differences of school and opinion, are part of one Ummah, with one Qur’an, one Prophet (PBUH) and one Qibla,” Mirwaiz said.
Referring to Khamenei’s position on nuclear weapons, Mirwaiz said the late leader had opposed their acquisition and use, considering them against Islamic teachings and humanity. He said true strength lies in justice, restraint and responsibility rather than destructive power.
Mirwaiz also recalled Khamenei’s support for the Palestinian cause, saying the suffering of Palestinians continues to remain a concern for the Muslim world and the international community.
Referring to people facing uncertainty and injustice, Mirwaiz said communities must draw strength from unity, patience and collective resolve, adding that dignity cannot be achieved through division.
Mirwaiz prayed for the departed leader and said his legacy should inspire people to reject sectarianism, promote brotherhood, support the oppressed and work towards peace and justice.
