SRINAGAR: A 40-year-old pilgrim from Punjab undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra was found dead at a hotel in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district on Friday.
Quoting officials,news agency JKNS reported that the deceased was identified as Narinder Kumar, son of Parminder Kumar and a resident of Barnala, Punjab. He was staying at a hotel in Sonamarg when he was found unconscious.
According to the report, the body was shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Sonamarg, for medico-legal formalities.
Officials said that police have initiated inquest proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to ascertain the cause of death.
Further investigation is underway, the report said.
