After remaining suspended for a day due to bad weather, the Amarnath Yatra resumed on Monday from Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu base camp.

Confirming the resumption of Yatra, an official said that a batch of 2,675 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in two escorted convoys for the valley.

“Of these, 1,131 yatris are going to Baltal base camp while 1,544 are going to Pahalgam,” he said.

Officials said since it started on July 1 this year, 3,19,355 pilgrims had darshan at the cave shrine during the last 27 days.

So far, 26 pilgrims have died during the yatra. In addition to this, two volunteers and two security men also lost their lives.

The 45-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on July 1 has been going on smoothly and will conclude on August 15, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima festival.
