SRINAGAR: The annual Amarnath Yatra resumed from Jammu on Thursday after remaining suspended for a day as a precautionary security measure ahead of the seventh anniversary of the August 5, 2019 constitutional changes.
The 28th batch of pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas at around 2:45 am for the Baltal base camp under security arrangements, according to the Joint Police Control Room, Bhagwati Nagar. No convoy was sent on the Pahalgam route.
A total of 1,801 pilgrims travelled towards Baltal in a convoy of 74 vehicles. The group comprised 1,347 men, 351 women, 89 sadhus and 14 sadhvis.
The convoy included 40 buses, 12 medium motor vehicles, 19 light motor vehicles and three two-wheelers. It was escorted by personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
With the departure of the 28th batch, the cumulative number of pilgrims who have left Jammu for this year’s Amarnath Yatra has risen to 1,43,513, officials said.
The pilgrimage from Jammu was suspended on Wednesday amid heightened security arrangements ahead of the seventh anniversary of the August 5, 2019 constitutional changes.
The suspension did not affect pilgrims already staying at the Baltal base camp, who were allowed to proceed towards the Holy Cave for darshan according to the scheduled movement.
