SRINAGAR: The annual Amarnath Yatra resumed from the Baltal route on Saturday after a one-day suspension caused by adverse weather and track damage, while the pilgrimage through the Pahalgam route remained suspended as repair work continued, officials said.
Officials said pilgrims were permitted to proceed to the Holy Cave shrine from Baltal after weather conditions improved and restoration work on the track was completed.
The yatra had been suspended on Friday following incessant rainfall, which led to minor damage to the Baltal track and prompted authorities to halt the movement of pilgrims as a precaution.
However, officials said the Pahalgam route continues to remain closed while essential repair work is underway to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
The 2026 Amarnath Yatra commenced on July 3, and around 4.5 lakh pilgrims have so far offered prayers at the Holy Cave shrine, home to the naturally formed ice lingam revered by devotees as a manifestation of Lord Shiva.
The 57-day pilgrimage is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
