Block Medical Officer Kupwara Monday attached an ambulance driver after the reports that he along with other drivers has been ferrying passengers in hospital ambulance.

“After taking cognizance of a news report that an ambulance driver driving an ambulance (JK09-6782) of Sub-District Hospital Kupwara was found ferrying passengers and charging money from them, we have relieved the said driver. A committee has been constituted to probe the matter and if found guilty the accused will be terminated from the service,” BMO Kupwara Dr Fareed Shaheen told CNS.

Pertinently, the said driver was beaten to pulp by people at Chogul Handwara after he was spotted ferrying passengers in the ambulance.

Meanwhile, a demolition squad member was ‘seriously’ injured when miscreant’s pelted stones on LAWDA demolition squad whey they tried to dismantle ‘illegal’ structures in Green Belt area of Srinagar City.

A LAWDA official said that a house on Government land was dismantled in Meerakshah colony Habak while a wooden shed and tin walling were also razed to ground near Zabarwan Park and Foreshore Road Srinagar. “The miscreants in these areas resorted to stone-pelting in which a demolition squad member Ghulam Rasool Wagay was injured,” he said and added that driver against encroachers will continue unabated.

The Official informed that two FIRs were lodged against tipper drivers in police stations Nishat and Nigeen for ferrying illegal construction material in violation of the Honourable High Court.

“People are requested to desist from resorting to illegal constructions and encroachments, otherwise they will personally be responsible for the loss of their property,” he cautioned.
