The panic gripped the entire area around 10pm when locals reported that they heard intense bangs.  “As shelling was going on over the protesters who were trying to break the cordon, suddenly some loud bangs  were heard ,” a local told  Kashmir Life. Locals further said that the taranas are being played over the mosque loudspeakers amid  occasional bangs. “Nothing is clear what is happening outside , but slogans could be heard,” another local said.

Rumours are rife that top militant commander is among the suspected militants, but police officials are tight lipped to comment. However according to police officials, the operation has been suspended and will be resumed in morning. No further details were shared about the number and presence of militants.

Army and police are still holding the cordon when this report is being filed.
