The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistan Rangers Thursday began high-level talks amid fresh firing to “address ceasefire violations” on Line of Control besides discussing other issues.

A 15-member team of Pakistani Rangers led by Major General Umar Farooq Burki arrived in India for the director general-level talks at a time when India and Pakistan again exchanged gunfire along the LoC in Poonch.

The defence spokesperson said Pakistani troops resorted to “unprovoked ceasefire violations” in Bhimber Gali sector of Poonch district last evening. “The area witnessed firing by Pakistan army early Thursday morning,” he said.

Notably, the scope of talks was born during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Ufa Russia this past July.
