Amit Shah Lands In Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Home Minister, Amit Shah was received at the Srinagar airport by Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha slightly before noon. This is Shah’s first Kashmir visit after the reading down of Article 370 in August 2019.

Shah’s visit coincided with inclement weather. While massive rains lashed the plains of Kashmir, it is snowing in the upper reaches. The early snowfall is taking place at a time when Kashmir is yet to harvest more than half of the apple produce.

Soon after his arrival, Amit Shah visited the residence of slain Insp Parvez Ahmed. Shah me his family and interacted with his wife Fatima Akhter and handed over to her a job appointment letter. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and central minister Jitendra Singh accompanied him to the Nowgam residence of the slain cop.

“Visited the house of martyr Jawan Parvez Ahmed Dar and paid tribute to him. I and the whole country are proud of his bravery. Met his family members and gave his wife a government job,” Amit Shah stated on Twitter. He told the family: “The entire country is with you. We will always remember the supreme sacrifice being made by Dar and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.”

Militants killed Parvez Ahmad near his house in Nowgam when he was returning home after offering evening prayers on June 22, 2021.

Shah is expected to preside over a security-related meeting at Raj Bhawan, followed by a meeting with some youth club. In the evening, he would be inaugurating the Srinagar Sharjah flight at the Srinagar airport.

The security grid has made extraordinary arrangements to ensure the visit passes incident-free. Massive deployments have taken place in Srinagar and many new sang-bagged bunkers have emerged on key roads.
