SRINAGAR: Security forces launched a large-scale search operation across more than a dozen forested villages in Surankote on Wednesday following reports of the movement of two suspected militants in the Dhara Sangla and Gujjar Naar areas.
Officials said no contact had been established with the suspected militants when the latest reports were received, while the search operation was continuing.
During the operation, a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and 37 Rashtriya Rifles recovered a cache of ammunition from Bhoriwala Dhok, adjoining Hari village.
The recovered material included 117 AK-47 rounds, 17 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition and two AK-47 magazines, officials said.
Police said further details were awaited and an investigation into the recovery was under way.
