SRINAGAR: Security has been heightened across Kashmir following the killing of a police head constable in a militant attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, with security forces intensifying surveillance, strengthening checkpoints and launching search operations.
According to officials, the alert was issued after Head Constable Ashiq Hussain was shot dead at point-blank range by militants in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag on Wednesday afternoon.
In a post on X, the CRPF Srinagar Sector said security across the Valley had been placed on high alert following the attack.
“Security forces have intensified surveillance, strengthened checkpoints and launched search operations to maintain law and order. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces,” the CRPF said.
Officials said security deployments have been reinforced across sensitive locations in Kashmir, while additional checking and search operations are underway as part of the heightened security measures.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is scheduled to chair a high-level meeting at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar on Thursday to review the overall security situation and the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
