Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Criticises Continued House Detention of Kashmir Mirwaiz

SRINAGAR: The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has strongly condemned the continued house detention of its leader and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, by the authorities. This marks the third consecutive Friday that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been restricted to his Nigeen residence, preventing him from delivering his sermon at the historic Jama Masjid.

In a statement, the Anjuman criticised the administration for imposing what it termed “arbitrary and unjustified restrictions” on the religious activities of the Mirwaiz. The organisation highlighted that despite the bitter cold, thousands of devotees, including women, children, and physically challenged individuals, gather at the Jama Masjid to hear the Mirwaiz’s sermon, only to be disappointed by his absence.

The Auqaf expressed deep anguish over the LG administration’s actions, which it described as disrespectful to the religious sentiments and freedoms of the people. The organisation accused the authorities of interfering in the religious affairs of Muslims, calling the measures highly condemnable.

Such actions, the Anjuman stated, not only hurt the emotions of the devotees but also violate fundamental rights and freedoms. It urged the administration to lift the restrictions and allow Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to perform his religious duties, respecting the faith and sentiments of the people.
