SRINAGAR: In a tragic incident, doctor Saleem Hussain from Srinagar lost his battle with COVID-19 on Monday.
The 81-year old doctor from Gilikadal area of Nowshera was prominent chest specialist. He tested positive for COVID19 on August 13 after developing symptoms of the viral disease following which he was admitted to chest disease hospital.
An official said the medico fought the infection for 4 days but finally lost the battle on Monday.
Sources said that the deceased doctor referred many patients to SKIMS after seeing their X-ray during COVID-19 lockdown.
They said as a professional, Dr Saleem was respected both by patients and professionals. “As a doctor, he was popular among his patients equally because of his hard work, and sense of responsibility towards the society,” they said.
Earlier two senior doctors Including Shabir Ahmad Malik resident of Bamndipora who contracted the disease during contact tracing and was admitted to the SKIMS. He recovered and was discharged. A few days later the disease returned and killed him in SMHS Hospital.

Prior to this, a resident of Konibal in Pampore Dr M Ashraf Mir had died of COVID-19 at around 6:15 in the morning of August 9, 2020.
