A militant was killed and a teenage girl injured in a gunfight which broke out in Khan Mohalla Arizal area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday.
The police spokesman said that as a part of a joint operation, Budgam police along with 55 RR and CRPF launched a search in Khan Mohalla Arizal area of P/S Beerwah which resulted in an encounter with hiding militants.
“During the search, militants tried to flee and came out of the house and fired indiscriminately on forces. In retaliation, one unknown militant has been neutralized, whose identity and affiliation is being ascertained. Arms and ammunition have been recovered,” police said.
Meanwhile, in the incident, one teenage girl received the injury in the thigh while the hiding militant was trying to escape firing indiscriminately. She has been promptly evacuated to hospital by the police for medical treatment and her condition is now reported to be stable. The area is under cordon and search is being done.
In the said encounter no collateral damage has taken place and security forces are now sanitizing the area, a spokesman said.
