SRINAGAR

A day after traders protest against Army and alleged that it has been occupying land at tourist resort Sonamarg in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District, Army Thursday said that it is ready for a joint survey and will cooperate with the locals and civil administration to establish the truth.

A senior Army official told CNS that the best way to resolve the matter amicably  is to go for a joint survey. “Let the representatives of administration, army and locals sit together and held a joint survey of the land in Sonamarg. Everything will be clear after the survey. The joint survey will make it clear which people have occupied what and that way administration will also come to know about the facts,” the official said adding that Army is a disciplined force that never violate the norms.

Pertinently, the trader’s community had staged a protest against the alleged encroachment of land in and adjoining areas of tourist resort Sonamarg by Army and had urged upon the General Officer Commanding Northern Command to look into the matter and initiate action against the erring Army officers.

Army official said that there is plenty of Defence land at their disposal and army has no need to occupy the civilian land.
