Srinagar: The members of a Whatsapp news group were disturbed on Monday when an Army officer posted scores of porn videos on it here in Kashmir Valley.
After facing the wrath from the group members, the said Army Officer (phone number and name withheld) posted at one of the locations in Bandipora district left the said news group.
The uploading of nude videos forced many members to leave the said news group. Like other Whatsapp news groups, this group also has police officers, Army officials, bureaucrats, journalists as its members. “I was really disturbed when I logged in. This is disgusting. I left the group immediately,” said one of the members to CNS.
As the group members started objecting, one of the admins of the group was forced to reveal the identity of the person in question. “He (uploader of porn videos) is an Indian Army Major,” the Admin wrote.
Another admin of the group alleged that the said Army officer might have been drunk while uploading such stuff on this group. “Army is an institution and people like this Major are really a slur on the name of Army,” said another member.
Pertinently, transferring or sharing of any obscene material through social networking sites including Whatsapp is cognizable offence and punishable under law. “Police can take suo-moto cognizance about the said incident and can book the guilty under law,” said a lawyer.
Despite repeated attempts, the man in question didn’t pick up the phone. An army official wishing not to be named said that the mistake had been ‘inadvertent’. (CNS)
