The army man critically injured in Wednesday’s militant attack in Shopian succumbed to injuries at an Army hospital in Srinagar last night.
Identified as Anish T of Army’s 62 Rashtriya Rifles unit, he was injured in firing by the militants when army launched an operation in Imam Sahib Shopian last evening.
“We did not want any collateral damage in the operation and did not retaliate,” the army official said.
Shortly after the attack, government forces started house-to-house searches but failed to track down the militants.
