Army Organising Musical Concert, Air Drills at Dal Lake

Indian Air Force (IAF) is organising a musical concert by renowned Air Warriors Symphony Orchestra (AWSO) and drill display by Air Warriors Drill Team (AWDT) on Wednesday (July 15, 2015) at Shere-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC).

“It is for the first time that AWSO and AWDT will perform in the valley and will enthral the people of Kashmir,” the army spokesperson said.

Besides showcasing the multifaceted talent and image of the IAF to the people of J&K, the spokesperson said, the event will also be used to spread awareness about career opportunities and motivate the youth to join the IAF.

“With this outreach programme, the IAF aims to enhance the cooperation with state and its people and also build rapport for providing effective aid to civil administration during any natural calamity,” the spokesperson said.

AWSO was formed in June 2002 at Air Force Station Jalahalli in Bangalore, with the best musicians of various Air Force Bands. It comprises of 60 musicians and they play brass, woodwind, reed, string, electronic and percussion instruments.

“The aim of AWSO is to entertain people and create awareness about the Indian Air Force through music as well as showcase the multi faceted talent of the Air Warriors in playing martial and soft music,” the spokesperson said. “AWSO symbolises teamwork, harmony, ethos and dedication of every Air Warrior towards his profession. This orchestra has performed many concerts in Indian and abroad including France, Italy, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Srilanka and Bangladesh.”

AWDT was raised at Air Force Station Tambaram in Nov 2004 and was moved to Air Force Station New Delhi, its permanent location in Aug 2005, he said. “Drill being an integral part of military ethos, the AWDT was conceived and raised to project dynamic and multifarious image of the IAF.”

Among the armed forces and para military forces in India, AWDT is the only drill team which can perform such unique and intricate drill movements with rifles and live bayonet, the spokesperson said.

“AWDT is the Ground Ambassador of IAF and its motto is Drill to Thrill.”
