Army Personnel Injured in Gunfight With Militants in JK’s Poonch

   

SRINAGAR: A soldier was injured after a brief exchange of gunfire broke out between militants and security forces in Lasana village of Poonch’s Surankote area on Monday night, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Lasana following inputs about militant movement in the area. During the operation, contact was established with the hiding militants, resulting in a short but intense gunfight.

The Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps, in a post on X, said: “Contact was established with terrorists during a joint operation with Police at Lasana, Surankote last night. Additional troops have been inducted, and search operations are ongoing to prevent the terrorists from escaping.”

Officials said one Army personnel sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and was immediately evacuated to a hospital for treatment.

Following the encounter, additional forces were deployed to seal the area and prevent the militants from escaping. Search operations were ongoing at the time of filing this report. (KNT).
