Police today booked an army porter in Handwara tehsil of Kupwara district on charges of allegedly killing his wife around ten months after their marriage.

The accused identified as, Sajad Ahmad Khan, 26, resident of Puthwari village killed his wife, in a fit of rage after an argument took place between the two over some domestic issue, a few days before, a police official said.

“The accused caught hold of her neck and smashed her repeatedly causing her death. Initially we apprehended it could be a murder related to dowry but during sustained interrogation of accused it turned out be a verbal brawl between the two that led to murder of woman, “Shabir Khan, deputy superintendent of police Handwara told ‘Kashmir Wire’

Police has booked the accused Under Section 302 (murder) and sought exhumation of body for post mortem to establish exact cause of death.

“We have sought permission from Deputy Commissioner Kupwara today for exhumation of body to establish cause of murder that took place a few days before. The body would be exhumed for post mortem after permission is granted,” Khan added.

The victim 22 was a house wife.

A local resident and neighbor said the relations between the married couple remained strained throughout their marriage lasting ten months. (Kashmir Wire)
