Two-way traffic has been allowed on the historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting south Kashmir with Jammu, though vehicles will ply from only one side on the Srinagar-Leh national highway as a precautionary measure following slippery road conditions.

Meanwhile, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, linking Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was also through for two-way light vehicular traffic though heavy vehicles will continue to ply from one side only.

A traffic police official said on Thursday that two-way light vehicular traffic was allowed to ply since 0900 hrs on Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir to Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu.

“Due to slippery road condition, traffic could be allowed only after 0900 hrs,” he said.

However, he said no heavy vehicle will be allowed on the road from either side.
