The Army’s White Knight Corps, on the micro-blogging platform X, paid tribute to the soldier, stating, “The #GOC, White Knight Corps, and all ranks honour Havildar Gajendra Singh of the Special Forces, who made the supreme sacrifice while bravely executing a counter-terrorism operation in the Singpura area during the ongoing Operation TRASHI-I on the night of 19 January 2026. We salute his courage, valour, and selfless devotion to duty, and stand with his bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

Reports said a fierce gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in the forested area of Chattru in Kishtwar. The operation, launched on Sunday in the Sonnar village area near Mandral–Singhpora in the Chatroo sector, was suspended late Sunday night due to difficult terrain and poor visibility.

Officials said the operation escalated into an exchange of fire during the initial contact, in which eight security personnel were injured after militants hurled a grenade.

According to intelligence inputs, two to three militants, suspected to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), are believed to be trapped in the area.
