Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary charing meeting of officials to review Muharram arrangements

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary instructed all concerned departments to ensure all arrangements as finalised earlier and as due are made before the start of this sacred Islamic month. It is notable that it starts on Friday, August 21.

He was speaking at a meeting convened here Thursday to review the arrangements made by different departments with regard to Muharram-ul-Haram, during which Muslims, in particular the Shi’a community, pray in abundance and refrain from joyous events in respect for the sacrifice of martyrs.

Concerned departments were instructed to ensure the provision of uninterrupted power and water supplies, adequate supplies of essential commodities, and availability of healthcare among other facilities in all Shi’a dominated areas and to all Imambaras across the district.

It is notable that during the last few days the R&B and the SMC had also pressed their men and machinery into service and repaired the damaged infrastructure like street lights.

Dr Shahid while speaking on the occasion emphasised the crucial importance of complete adherence to precautions and preventive guidelines in order to be safe and to let others be safe from COVID-19.

ADC Haneef Balkhi, SDMs East and West, and Joint Director Planning were also present in the meeting.
