SRINAGAR: Authorities have refused permission for political parties and organisations to hold protest demonstrations anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, with security arrangements tightened ahead of the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police said no political party or organisation had been authorised to organise a protest or demonstration on the day and warned that violations would attract legal action under relevant provisions.
“No permission has been granted to any political party or organisation for holding protests or demonstrations on August 5,” the police said, adding that anyone violating the directions would face “strict legal action” under the law.
The move comes as the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have announced plans to hold protests at their respective party headquarters and district-level offices on August 5, marking the anniversary of the constitutional changes introduced in 2019.
Security arrangements have been strengthened across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the anniversary, with authorities maintaining heightened vigilance to prevent any unauthorised gatherings or disruptions.
