SRINAGAR: The Supreme Court convened on Wednesday to resume its proceedings concerning the legal challenges against the Centre’s 2019 decision to abrogate Article 370.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justice SK Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, and Justice Surya Kant, constitute the Constitution Bench overseeing the hearings.

This marks the sixth day of hearings, during which Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal, Gopal Subramanium, and Zaffar Ahmed Shah have articulated their arguments on behalf of the petitioners. Today, Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan, representing JKPC, initiated his arguments, offering further insights into the case.

Mehbooba Mufti, former Chief Minister and PDP Chief, was present at the Supreme Court on Wednesday. She expressed, “BJP, with its brute majority, has unconstitutionally revoked our special status, but we trust the temple of democracy. This isn’t a fight for the revocation of Article 370, but rather a fight for India’s constitution. It’s the democratic system that is on trial,” while addressing reporters outside the Supreme Court of India.

Besides, Sajad Lone, President of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC), accompanied by Spokesperson Adnan Ashraf Mir, also attended the Supreme Court proceedings relating to the Article 370 case.

Notably, this is the second instance in which Sajad Lone has been present at the Supreme Court for the Article 370 hearing.
