A day after Jammu and Kashmir High Court quashed the detention of Asiya Andrabi, chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, under Public Safety Act (PSA), authorities according to her family instead of releasing her, shifted her from Baramulla Jail to Rambagh Police Station.

“We were expecting her release and whole day on Friday we were waiting inside Baramulla Jail. The officials there even informed us that Asiya Andrabi will be released. She was however, bundled into a police vehicle and lodged into police station Rambagh,” Irfana, the sister-in-law of Asiya Andrabi told local news agency CNS.

She said that the Station House Officer Rambagh Police Station informed them she could not release Andrabi till she gets directions from the top. “Asiya Andrabi is suffering from many ailments. She is a hypertension and asthma patients and furthermore her 15 year old son Ahmed Bin Qasim has undergone surgery and is bed-ridden in the home. If Andrabi is threat to the State, she could be placed under house arrest and not in the police station,” Irfana said.

When contacted a top police official said that Andrabi is threat to peace and she was again booked under section 107 and 151 of Ranbir Penal Code.

Pertinently, Asiya Andrabi was arrested on October 4 and lodged in sub-jail Baramulla. Justice Muhammad Yaqoob Mir while quashing her detention under PSA had directed the state government to release her without any delay.
