After protests rocked the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the upper house of Jammu and Kashmir Legislature also witnessed uproar over the statement of VHP Leader Sadhvi Prachi on Thursday.
The righ wing Hindu leader has called for “Making India Muslim Free “.
As soon as the house proceedings began, National Conference and Congress Legislators stood up from their seats demanding condemnation of the “Sadhvi Statement” from the PDP-BJP Government.
After protests continued for some time and government failed to issue a statement, the NC legislators along with Congress members staged walkout from the Legislative Council.
Notably, the Upper House on Wednesday too witnessed strong protests against the “Sadhvi Statement”. Government Spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar had condemned the statement adding, “India is a secular nation and Muslims are part of it.”
While talking to Kashmir Life, senior NC Legislator Mohammad Shafi Urvi said that the statement of VHP leader is condemnable and termed it as a “pre-planned conspiracy of the BJP and RSS”.
Shafi Urvi said, “after Hindus, Muslims are at number two with over 20 crore population. PM should break his silence on this issue, otherwise it will be seen that Sadhvi has the support of the PM as well.”
Independent MLA Er Rasheed said, “such statements are the reason that Muslims in India including people in Jammu and Kashmir are feeling alienated. There is a need to reign in politicians like Sadhvi.”
He said that the statement of VHP leader needs to be condemned in one voice.
Senior Congress Legislator Nawang Ragzin Zohra said, “on one side, PM Modi is trying to present himself as a secular leader abroad while he has given free hand to people like Sadhvi Prachi to speak venomous against a particular community with an aim to divide the people of India on religious lines.”
Congress’ Inderwal lawmaker, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori said, “the statement of Sadhvi is aimed to create another Gujarat.” “BJP is trying to terrorize the Muslims in India,” he said and added, “secular parties like Congress will act as a wall to prevent the communal forces from dividing the nation.”
