The Lowe House of the J&K Legislature Monday witnessed ruckus while debate was going on over grants to Education sector.

Opposition lawmakers took government head on as why no minister concerned was present in the house.

Normally, when grants to departments are being discussed, the minister concerned or his/her deputy is scheduled to remain present in the house to listen and note the recommendations of the lawmakers.

PDP’s MLC Naeem Akhtar is Minister of Education while BJP’s nominated MLA, Priya Sethi, is his deputy.

As a BJP lawmaker stood and started discussing the grants, an Opposition lawmaker from Ladakh told the house that the minister concerned was missing. This angered the Opposition lawmakers and they stood up and raised anti-government slogans.

Although some Agriculture, Gh Nabi Lone Hanjura, signalled that he was jotting down the concerns and suggestions of the lawmakers but it didn’t satisfy the protestors.

While this was going on, the special guests in the public gallery, were watching all this. Government has invited over a dozen students from Government run Amira Kadal Higher Secondary School. Deputy Speaker, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, welcomed the students to House.

Minister of Education, Naeem Akhtar, walked into the House giving solace to Opposition members and the debate resumed.
