Manasbal Lake

The lower house of Jammu and Kashmir Legislature was Tuesday informed that the water level of Manasbal Lake in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has “receded by three inches”.

Participating in the debate over grants to Forest Department, government turned Congress lawmaker, Usman Majeed said, “I recently visited Manasbal where officials informed me about this grave situation where water level has receded in the lake.”

Seeking immediate response to the problem, Majeed said, “your government needs to think over it and engage experts as what has happened that water has gone down. It is crisis.”

Majeed further took Forest department head on “dividing the Bandipora Forest Training Department”. “Why has this Heritage Training centre been divided? Up to 1990s, the training school was running only from Bandipora but now the officials in winters flee to Jammu, why?”

He asked government to restore the glory of this training school built in late 1800.

Expressing his serious concern over man-animal conflict, Majeed asked government to strengthen the wildlife department. “Please save people, as well as animals.”
