Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly speaker Tuesday directed PDP-BJP government to grant relief to those who died or were injured in twin road accidents in Poonch.

Responding to concern raised by Poonch lawmaker, Ch Javed Rana, Muhammad Shafi Urvi who is holding speaker’s chair in absence of Kavinder Gupta and his deputy Nazir Gurezi.

Rana told the house, while debate on grants to Forest Department is going on, that two people died yesterday evening in Poonch road accident while two others are severely injured. It was second in last few days when seven people died in the same area.

Rana sought relief from the government to NoK to the deceased and monetary and medical assistance to the injured. “It is unfortunate that government has not reached the injured so far,” Rana said. “I appeal government to please grant some relief to the injured who are in the hospital and to NoK of deceased as well.”

Seeking immediate action from the government, Chairman Urvi said that this was a humanitarian issue. “There is a provision that ex-gratia relief is given to those who are injured in accident or to NoK of deceased.” “I direct government to take necessary steps in this regard.”

Notable to mention here, Urvi is the senior most lawmaker in the lower house in the on-going 2016-17 budget session. In absence of Speaker and deputy speaker, the senior most lawmaker runs the house and is addressed as chairman legislative assembly.
