For the maintenance of Mughal Road, government has earmarked Rs 5 crore in the budget 2016-17. This was stated on Tuesday in Legislative Assembly in the answer of the question raised by MLA Choudhary Mohammad Akram. The requisite funds have also been released, the document reveals.

The maintenance is in terms snow clearance, removal of slides, clearance of drains, construction of damaged walls, and other works.

As per the R&B department, state government is taking steps to declare Mughal road as National Highway.

The state Government is pursuing the matter with Ministry of Road Transport &Highways for declaration of the Mughal Road as National Highway, documents mention.

The issue has also been flagged by Chief Minister during a meeting in April this year with Union Minister for Road Transport &Highways, government document says, but sanction is still awaited.

Meanwhile, in order to promote tourism Shopian-Dobjan-Peer ki Gali tourism development Authority has also been formed.

This was stated in Legislative Assembly after in answer to MLA Mohammad Yousuf Bhat’s question.

Nineteen villages are being included in the proposed Development Authority, the government document reveals, and the proposal has been formulated and submitted to planning Development and Monitoring Department and Finance Department for seeking concurrence.
The Government is also working on to promote these areas as adventure tourism destinations, it was informed.
