Lawmaker from South Kashmir and senior CPI(M) leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Tuesday said that Kashmir is a ‘disease’ that needs remedy and if it is left unattended it will pose a serious threat to the unity of the country.

Tarigami was speaking in the Legislative Assembly. He said Kashmir is not only a ‘disease’ but a ‘volcano’ too that has potential to burst anytime. “I told Prime Minister of India to find a remedy of this disease and I appeal this House to have courage and move a resolution impressing upon government of India to find a permanent solution to Kashmir issue,” he said.

Tarigami said that Kashmir unrest or uprising was not the fall out of the two main political parties of the state but it is much more than that that needs attention.

“We need to find the causes of Kashmir unrest and at this stage if we don’t try to find out these causes, the incidents of 2010 and 2016 will get repeated. Time has come we find a solution to this problem without mudslinging,” he said.

Tarigami urged upon the government to make the system accountable. He asked government to set up a judicial commission headed by a retired Supreme Court Judge to probe into the killings.
