SRINAGAR: A 17-year-old south Kashmir girl has won five Gold medals at various martial arts competitions. Identified as Sana Sheikh, a resident of Donipawa village of Anantnag, she has been a struggler and is from a modest background.
Sana said she was happy to win almost 25 gold medals in various competitions in Jammu and Kashmir in martial arts, Thang-Ta, wushu and sqay martial arts. She said she is working hard to achieve her dream of participating in a global competition.
“I have won five gold medals within the Thang-Ta, Wushu, sqay martial arts and boxing championships. I have also participated in the belt wrestling championship,” she said.
She thanked her parents for helping her win five gold within Jammu and Kashmir and 16 medals at district competitions. After winning gold in the state championship, she got a chance in the nationals but could not participate due to some issues.
Sana’s father, Abdul Hameed Sheikh is working at a bakery shop in Anantnag while her mother Rosy Jan is working in another shop. The parents are working to help their daughter get better educated. However, they could not afford her travel to play at the national level.
“My dream is to reach the international stage and perform well in mega events but I want support from the government so that I can prove my mettle at mega stages,” she said.
