SRINAGAR: At least seven residential houses were reportedly destroyed in a fire that broke out in Mungli village of Warwan in Kishtwar district on Tuesday.
Local residents were engaged in efforts to contain the blaze in the absence of a fire station in the area. Fire tenders were sent from Larnoo in Anantnag district and took around three hours to reach the village, according to reports.
The lack of a local fire service has delayed the emergency response in the remote area.
The full extent of the damage and whether anyone was injured in the incident was not immediately known.
Warwan has witnessed several fire incidents in recent years, in which dozens of houses have reportedly been destroyed. In October 2016, around 25 houses were gutted in a fire in Sukhnoi.
Mungli is located in the Warwan block of Kishtwar district.
