Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Wednesday convened a meeting which was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic Srinagar and RTO Kashmir.
The meeting deliberated upon the issues regarding the use of fare meters in Auto Rickshaws. In the meeting, it was decided that it will be mandatory for all auto rickshaws plying in the city to use meters and charge the passengers accordingly, an official spokesperson said this evening.
It was also decided that directions will be passed by RTO Kashmir to all auto rickshaw owners to install digital meters in place of analogue meter within three months. No fitness renewals shall be granted by RTO unless the digital meters are installed.
In the meeting it was given out that the dealers will be directed not to sell any auto rickshaw without Letter of Authority from the Competent Authority. Any violation of the directions shall be dealt under law.
The meeting also decided that plying of Women Special buses shall be regularly monitored by SSP Traffic, RTO Kashmir and GM JKSRTC. The meeting was further told that the instructions with respect to reservation of seats for women in mini buses and large buses shall be strictly followed. Proper signage shall be installed in this regard in the buses. People, especially men, have been requested to cooperate with the transporters and ensure that reserved seats are kept exclusively for women in all the passenger buses.
Meanwhile, Traffic Police Srinagar under the supervision of SSP Traffic City during a special drive against Auto Rickshaw operators plying without fare meters, registration and fitness certificates has booked 502 violators realizing a fine of Rs 55000.
During the drive launched from April 16 violators were booked for plying without fare meters, besides 50 Auto-rickshaws were seized today.
Traffic police has said that the drive would continue to check the errant Auto rickshaw operators fleecing the consumers.
