Nabi struck twice in his opening spell, dismissing openers Tim Seifert and Will Young to reduce New Zealand to 19 for two before Anshul Kamboj claimed another wicket. New Zealand were subsequently 41 for three after 13 overs.

The Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler opened his international wicket account by removing Seifert for a five-ball duck in the second over. Seifert mistimed a delivery on the off-stump and chipped it towards mid-on, where Anshul Kamboj completed the catch.

Nabi followed it up by dismissing Young for six in the sixth over. The pacer induced an outside edge, which wicketkeeper KL Rahul collected with a diving catch behind the stumps.

At the time of reporting, Nabi had returned figures of two wickets for 21 runs in five overs, maintaining an economy rate of 4.20.

The rain-affected contest was reduced to 47 overs per side after India won the toss and elected to field first. Shubman Gill is leading the Indian side in the match.
