SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have urged people to remain vigilant against cyber fraud during the festive season, warning against fraudulent online offers and unsafe digital transactions ahead of Dhanteras.
In a public awareness advisory, the police cautioned people against falling for offers that appear too good to be true, particularly those circulated on social media, and stressed the importance of verifying payment details before completing online transactions.
The advisory, issued as part of the CyberDosti4c cyber safety awareness campaign, highlighted three key precautions to prevent financial fraud.
People have been advised not to click on suspicious or unusually attractive offers advertised on social media, as such links could expose them to cyber fraud.
The police also clarified that a UPI PIN is not required to receive money and urged people never to disclose or enter their PIN under the pretext of receiving a payment.
Additionally, people have been asked to carefully verify all details before scanning a QR code or approving a digital payment to avoid transferring money to fraudsters.
Highlighting the risks associated with online shopping and digital payments during the festive period, the police said people should remain alert before clicking on links and verify every transaction to safeguard their hard-earned money.
The campaign, supported by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and Cyber Dost, seeks to promote cyber awareness and encourage safe digital practices during the festive season.
