Srinagar

Train service has again been suspended on Friday for “security reasons” in the Kashmir, following strike called by Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) and traders in protest against the civilian killings in Shopian and Kangan.

”We have suspended all train runs in the Kashmir valley on the advice from police,” a senior railway official said.

Therefore, he said, no train will chug on Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north.

Similarly, all trains will remain suspended on Srinagar-Islamabad-Qazigund in south Kashmir with Banihal in Jammu, he added.

Pertinent to mention, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprised of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for peaceful protests after Friday’s congregational prayers.

Geelani and Mirwaiz continue to remain under house arrest while Malik has been lodged at the Srinagar Central Jail.

Due to the widespread protests by students on Thursday, authorities ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and universities in the Valley and all the exams scheduled for today have been cancelled.
